Politics aside, we look at how much we think the Queen’s Visit to Ireland will be worth to hotels in the coming year through their direct online channel i.e. a hotel’s own website.
For this we have looked at the main tourist destinations in Ireland; East (Dublin), South (Cork) and West (Galway). These three cities represent the most popular searches by UK visitors within these regions:
From Google Insights we can see that Dublin gets about 4 times more visitor searches than Cork and about 8 times more searches than Galway. The increase in revenue from UK customers in the coming year will reflect this, with hotels in Dublin experiencing the most increase, radiating out from Dublin and throughout the rest of Ireland.
When calculating our revenue increases we limited it to mid to large 3 & 4 star hotels averaging 125 – 160 rooms. We also looked at Failte Ireland’s Overseas Market Estimates as well as British attitudes to the sterling differential to come up with our figures.
